This second meeting of the year is traditionally also our second club brew day. The brew day starts around 10:00am and usually lasts until late afternoon. The meeting follows the brew day and is usually a little earlier than the usual time because everyone has been brewing all day and wants to get home. So, plan for 5:00pm for the meeting if you can make it but not the entire brew day.
If you can't come to brew then please stop by and see how things are going. Invite a friend or neighbor who may be interested in home brewing to join us.
John Mansu has a fresh and inexpensive supply of liquid malt extract, grains and some hops. Call or email John for availability, note that John will not have all the supplies at the brew day so you will need to acquire them beforehand.
One club member works close to The Good Brewer in Livermore and can pickup supplies that John doesn't have. Yeast, unique hops and equipment for example. The request for a Good Brewer pickup must be to Rick no later than 7:00pm Thursday evening, February 2.
One of our neighboring clubs has scheduled their annual homebrew competition. Please support them by sending in some entries, details here.
Compare beer styles against the BJCP style guidelines. It is an excellent opportunity to learn more about the various beer styles and it's fun. The club is fortunate to have several BJCP judges who like to talk about beer!
The beer school assignment for February is Category 14C, Imperial IPA (any IPA over 7.5% is suitable)
The assignments include commercial and homebrewed examples.
If you have a homebrewed style for this month please bring it to the meeting.
If you would like to volunteer to bring commercial examples of a style please contact the school Principal.
Beer school assignments are the AHA club-only style for that month. The AHA doesn't have a club only competition every month so if you have a suggestion let the school Principal know about it!
